Chapman named one of the Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality, receiving a 100% score on the annual Corporate Equality Index.

December 3, 2015

CHICAGO – For the seventh year in a row, Chapman and Cutler received a perfect, 100% score on the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) Corporate Equality Index (CEI), earning the firm a place among the HRC’s Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality.

Chapman joins the ranks of 407 major U.S. businesses, including 95 Am Law 200 law firms, which also earned top marks this year. The 2016 CEI rated a total of 156 law firms in the report, which evaluates LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBT community. In all categories, Chapman and Cutler received the highest rating possible.

“Workplace equality is a core value we live by, both in and out of the office,” notes Tim Mohan, the firm’s Chief Executive Partner. “Our dedication to diversity and inclusion enhances our ability to serve our clients and provides a strong platform for growth and advancement among the attorneys and support professionals within our firm.”

A record-breaking number of businesses received a 100% score in 2016, even with the CEI’s demanding new global criteria this year. “Today, businesses no longer reserve basic workplace fairness for part of their workforce, but are instead making protections on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity consistent across their global operations,” said HRC President Chad Griffin.

Chapman has long been committed to providing a fair and inclusive workplace. In 1998, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and Equality Illinois gave Chapman and Cutler a special commendation for providing insurance benefits for domestic partners and encouraging broader participation in civic and pro bono activities.

Chapman attorneys participate in programs with Lambda Legal, a national organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. Additionally, Chapman’s internal LGBT Affinity Group monitors policies and helps implement the firm’s Diversity Action Plan, which includes a supplier diversity program.
