Chapman Recognized by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation for LGBTQ EqualityDownload
Chapman and Cutler LLP was again named one of the Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality, receiving a 100% score on the annual Corporate Equality Index
CHICAGO—For the tenth year in a row, Chapman and Cutler LLP received a perfect, 100% score on the 2019 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRCF), earning the firm a place among the Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality.
Chapman is among more than 570 major US businesses, including 114 AmLaw 200 law firms, recognized with top marks this year. The 2019 CEI rated a total of 164 law firms in the report, which evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, supporting an inclusive culture, and public engagement with and commitment to the LGBTQ community. In all categories, Chapman received the highest rating possible.
“Many of these companies have also become vocal advocates for equality in the public square,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “Time and again, leading American businesses have shown that protecting their employees and customers from discrimination isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s also good for business.”
“We are honored to be recognized for the tenth year in a row by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation,” said William Libit, Chapman’s Chief Operating Partner and a member of the firm’s internal LGBTQ Affinity Group. “We are honored to join a significant number of our clients and the other corporate honorees in receiving this recognition. Chapman has continued to focus on our longstanding commitment to be a leader with respect to ethnic, gender, and LGBTQ diversity.”
Chapman has long been committed to providing a fair and inclusive workplace for LGBTQ individuals. In 1998, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and Equality Illinois gave Chapman a special commendation for providing insurance benefits for domestic partners and encouraging broader participation in civic and pro bono activities. Chapman attorneys participate in programs with Lambda Legal, a national non-profit organization committed to achieving full recognition of civil rights for LGBTQ people. Additionally, Chapman’s internal LGBTQ Affinity Group collaborates with client diversity/employee resource groups, assists in shaping firm policies and programs, and helps implement the firm’s strategic diversity initiatives, which include recruiting/pipeline initiatives and a supplier diversity program.
