CHICAGO — For the eighth year in a row, Chapman and Cutler LLP received a perfect, 100% score on the Corporate Equality Index (CEI) administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRCF), earning the firm a place among the Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality.

Chapman is among 517 major U.S. businesses, including 50 Am Law 200 law firms, recognized with top marks this year. The 2017 CEI rated a total of 112 law firms in the report, which evaluates LGBTQ‑related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, training programs, and public engagement with the LGBTQ community. In all categories, Chapman received the highest rating possible. “These businesses know that LGBTQ equality isn’t just the right thing to do, it makes them stronger in our global economy,” said HRCF President Chad Griffin.

“Chapman considers equality, both in and out of the workplace, more than a goal to achieve but a standard to live by,” notes Tim Mohan, Chapman’s Chief Executive Partner. “A fair and inclusive work environment enhances our perspective and ability to provide creative and sensible solutions to the complex legal and business issues facing our clients. We are proud to join a number of our clients in receiving this recognition.”

“We are very honored to be recognized once again by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation and Chapman remains steadfast in our commitment to be a law firm leader with respect to ethnic, gender and LGBTQ diversity,” noted William Libit, Chapman’s Chief Operating Partner and a member of the firm’s internal LGBTQ affinity group.

Chapman has long been committed to providing a fair and inclusive workplace. In 1998, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and Equality Illinois gave Chapman a special commendation for providing insurance benefits for domestic partners and encouraging broader participation in civic and pro bono activities. Chapman attorneys participate in programs with Lambda Legal, a national organization for LGBTQ people. Additionally, Chapman’s internal LGBTQ Affinity Group collaborates with client diversity/affinity groups, shapes firm policies, and helps implement the firm’s strategic diversity initiatives, which include a supplier diversity program and recruiting/pipeline initiatives.
