Pre-Law OpportunitiesPrint Page
At Chapman, we want future generations to have opportunities to become lawyers or law business professionals, so we actively work to mitigate some of the barriers to entry to the legal profession. We volunteer for and financially support organizations that help middle and high school students from underserved communities succeed, and we provide scholarships and paid internships that encourage high school students, college students, and recent graduates to pursue a legal career. Among the programs we offer:
Finance Law Development Program: Law school is a huge expense, especially if you are not quite sure whether being a lawyer is the career for you. That’s why we developed a program that offers salaried positions to recent college graduates who want real-world, hands-on experience before pursuing a JD or other advanced degree.
Finance Law and Law Firm Administrative Internships: We offer two different summer internship programs designed for college students who want to gain hands-on, real-world experience in finance law or law firm administration. Our internships begin with an orientation to introduce finance and legal concepts specific to the internship, after which interns work on meaningful projects that support the firm.
Chapman and Cutler LLP Maynard H. Jackson Jr. Diversity Scholarship: In honor of our former partner and first African-American mayor of Atlanta, the late Maynard H. Jackson Jr., Chapman awards a $10,000 scholarship annually to a second-year law student who demonstrates a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

“My experience as an FLDP at Chapman has been overwhelmingly positive. Being able to work closely with knowledgeable and inspiring attorneys on complex, impactful deals has allowed me to solidify my dream of pursuing a legal career. My favorite part of the firm is its people, who are always willing to answer questions and offer encouragement and support. I cannot recommend this program enough for any student who is considering law school or a legal career.”
