Overview
Michael Wheaton is an associate and member of Chapman's Commercial Lending Group. Michael represents banks, private credit funds, hedge funds, and borrowers in a broad range of financing transactions, including bilateral and syndicated credit facilities, acquisition financings, and asset‑based lending. Michael also advises private credit funds, special situations and opportunistic funds, financial institutions, sponsors, and borrowers in leveraged finance transactions, unitranche, first‑lien/second‑lien, and other secured and unsecured lending arrangements. His experience includes the structuring, negotiation, and documentation of complex financing transactions across a variety of industries and capital structures. In addition, Michael has experience advising issuers and collateral managers on a broad range of structured finance and securitization transactions, including collateralized fund obligations, collateralized loan obligations, asset‑backed commercial paper conduit programs, and rated note feeder structures.
Michael maintains an active pro bono practice, representing military veterans across all branches of service in discharge upgrade and expungement requests, as well as related matters.
Prior to joining Chapman, Michael was a finance associate at two Am Law 50 firms and an Am Law 100 firm in Charlotte.
